Olympic Field Hockey Goes Blue

Channeling the famous and ridiculously popular Smurf Turf of Boise State, the Associated Press is reporting that Olympic 2012 field hockey matches will be played on blue turf:

The Hockey Center at the Olympic Park will also have shades of pink. That will be the colour of the run-off areas on the side of play. The reason for the change is because blue provides a higher degree of contrast than green between the ball and the turf for the players.

Oh yeah?  Is that the reason for the change to a blue and pink field?  Or is the reason to draw some interest to the never-watched field hockey matches played during the Olympic games?
